LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett police have identified a suspect in the Tuesday morning stabbing death of a 19-year-old Atlanta man.
Police believe Larry Doonnell Daniely stabbed the teen to death near a hotel room at the Norcross Extended Stay shortly after 8:30 a.m., according to an arrest warrant. The victim, Michael Anthony Black Jr., died at the scene.
Daniely had not yet been arrested Wednesday afternoon, according to jail records.
Police said the two men began fighting each other after a group of people squabbled near the hotel, which is located off Jimmy Carter Boulevard on Pelican Drive. Police did not comment on a possible motive for the stabbing.
Daniely has a history of alleged crimes in Gwinnett.
Jail records show he was arrested in June 2006 for drug possession and traffic violations. He was caught with drugs again in May 2007, according to police.
Daniely was incarcerated for more than seven months in the Gwinnett County Jail for the latter arrest.
The Norcross Extended Stay hasn't exactly been trouble-free of late, police said.
Police have fielded a high volume of crime-related calls from hotel management and guests in the past, said Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman.
A hotel manager said Tuesday the stabbing marks the business' first homicide.
