Newly minted Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services paramedics listen as Fire Chief Steve Rolader addresses friends and family at a graduation ceremony held Monday at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center. Consisting of 12 firefighters, this is the first paramedic class in more than a decade that the department trained - a new trend in the fire service. Officials say there is a growing need for paramedics, especially in the Southeast. The county intends to aggressively seek department-trained paramedics over the next several years by offering pay incentives and rank promotion preference.
