Local resident in bubble contest
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville resident Marissa Chamison qualified for a trip to New York City to compete for the title of the ultimate bubble-blower in the Bubblicious Ultimate Bubble-Blowing League competition.
The competition will be judged by NBA All-Star LeBron James.
Marissa secured her spot in the finals by blowing the biggest bubble at this summer's regional competition at Lake Lanier Islands Beach and Water Park.
Winners from this summer's competitions have earned the right to meet LeBron James in New York and to compete for the ultimate title in bubble-blowing. Finals will take place Sunday at Dave and Buster's in Times' Square.
Yargo Community Concert Band to perform Saturday
WINDER - The Yargo Community Concert Band will have a concert at the Cultural Arts Center of Winder's Colleen O. Williams Theatre at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The theatre is at 105 E. Athens Street. On the program is a variety of music from Ray Charles to Big Band and Broadway.
There will also be a special appearance by the Yargo Community Band Saxophone Choir.
Tickets for the performance are $5 each and can be purchased at the door or by calling Michelle Walker at the Chamber of Commerce at 770-867-9444.
Clean Air Campaign to thank carpoolers
LAWRENCEVILLE - The Clean Air Campaign will have an evening to thank carpoolers Friday.
The evening's theme will be "Kudos to Carpoolers" and will help kick off ABC's new show, "Carpoolers," premiering at 8:30 p.m.Tuesday.
Ten percent of the evening's proceeds from all 12 Ted's Montana Grill metro-Atlanta locations will go to The Clean Air Campaign, helping to improve air quality and reduce traffic in metro Atlanta.
The event will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. at any Ted's Montana Grill in the metro area.
All attendees can enter a prize drawing for an Los Angeles weekend getaway including two round-trip tickets on Delta, two tickets to a taping of "Dancing with the Stars," and a three-night stay at the Sheraton Universal Hotel. The winner will be announced on Tuesday.
Cheerleading squad wins competition
LAWRENCEVILLE - The Peachtree Ridge High School Blue Pride Competitive Cheerleading team earned the Grand Championship medal at the fourth annual Mill Creek High School Competitive Cheerleading Invitational.
The Grand Championship medal is awarded to the team with the highest score among all competing divisions. Competing against eight teams, Peachtree Ridge came in first in the Class-AAAAA Varsity Division.
The Blue Pride Junior Varsity team also took first place in the JV-CoEd division.
The varsity Blue Pride team is coached by Rob Spencer. Varsity Blue Pride team members are Hillary Ackerman, Kayla Barber, Amanda Barfield, Brittany Barfield, Hannah Brady, Raven Brown, Destinee Buchanan, Vanessa Cook, Hannah East, Bethany Girard, Chelsea Jennings, Chelsey Perry, April Radford, Kelly Reeves, Emily Yoder, Aoife Healy and Brittany Pienta.
