DeGarmo may make a stir at Chow Baby

Local celebrity and former "American Idol" darling Diana DeGarmo will use her star power for the greater good this week. The Snellville native will join the chefs of The Real Chow Baby stir-fry assembly restaurant to host a fundraiser for the Atlanta Community Food Bank from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Wearing her custom-made white chef's jacket, DeGarmo will cook up stir-fry dishes and meet with fans as part of the restaurant's Guest Griller Night series. Twenty percent of the night's sales will be donated to the community food bank.

Hotel unveils renovations, new menus

As part of a $138-million renovation effort, the Marriott-Atlanta Marquis is ready to unveil its latest additions. The hotel, which already boasts the largest atrium in the world, has introduced four new restaurant and lounge areas.

Sear will serve as the hotel's fine-dining option, with offerings of steak, seafood and 140 wine varieties. Though it's tagged as intimate, the venue can seat 350 diners.

Pulse is the hotel's new lounge and central entertainment hub, with an eight-hour social hour and cuisine offerings such as shrimp shooters and salmon crisps. Sports fans will find refuge in High Velocity, as the restaurant offers nearly two dozen 42-inches plasma TVs and 24 types of beer. Free to hotel guests but open to the public, Pool Bar is just that: a temperature-controlled, indoor/outdoor swimming area with a bar.

Taurus puts spin on happy hour

Taurus is putting a new spin on happy hour, serving it a few hours early. Yes, it's still 60-plus minutes of happy time, but instead of alcohol, the restaurant will serve a three-course menu during the 3 Martini Lunch.

For $15, diners can choose from soup, salad and entree, or a soup or salad with entree and dessert, and each dish will be served in a martini glass.
