North holds on for 5-4 win over Mill Creek

HOSCHTON - North Gwinnett scored five runs in the top of the first and made them stand as the No. 3 Bulldogs held on for a 5-4 win over second-ranked Mill Creek in Region 7-AAAAA play on Tuesday.

Alexis Anderson got it started for North (14-3, 6-1) with a two-run single while Kristen Hall later added a two-run triple. Brittany Broome picked up the win in relief to improve to 4-3.

For Mill Creek (17-4, 4-2), Hannah Graham helped bring the Hawks back with two RBIs while Morgan Bullock entered the game in the first inning in relief and held North scoreless for 61⁄3 innings with three hits and 12 strikeouts. Devin Dossman also had a hit with two RBIs while Stephanie Konkle finished 2-for-3.

SOFTBALL

Grayson 3, South 2

LOGANVILLE - Hayley Downs scored in the bottom of the seventh after a wild pitch and a throwing error to give Grayson a 3-2 win over South Gwinnett on Tuesday in Region 8-AAAAA action.

Mandi Burns pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts to improve to 9-2. Ashley Berger led the offense for the Rams (11-5, 3-1) with a double, RBI and a run while Rachel McElroy had a hit and an RBI. Ariel Larocca and Shannon Bear each added two hits while Blake Wilson had one.

Collins Hill 9, Norcross 1

SUWANEE - Sammy Lenahan went 3-for-4 on Tuesday with two triples, two RBIs and two runs in leading Collins Hill to a 9-1 win over Norcross in a Region 7-AAAAA game.

Lindsay Ellenberg, Alexa Lewis and Carlie Gillam each went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Collins Hill (11-5-1, 5-1) while Kathleen Pulliam finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.

Kim Mason picked up the win on the mound, allowing one run on six hits over seven innings with nine strikeouts.

Peachtree Ridge 6, Duluth 3

DULUTH - Peachtree Ridge improved to 14-5 overall and 6-0 in Region 7-AAAAA with a 6-3 win over Duluth on Tuesday night.

Krysten Connelly (9-2) pitched four innings, allowing two hits with four strikeouts and one walk for the win while Callie Fernandez led the offense, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two steals. Michelle Wagner also added a 2-for-3 night with a run while Connelly had a hit with two RBIs.

Brookwood 20, Berkmar 0

LILBURN - Brookwood starter Meredith Hallman picked up her first win on Tuesday as the Broncos powered their way past Berkmar 20-0 in three innings. Hallman (1-0) pitched all three innings, striking out one while allowing no hits.

Emily Southard and Lisa Parkerson each went 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Brookwood (13-8, 5-0) while Samantha Warneke added a hit and an RBI. Angie Kamino also went 2-for-2 while Sydney Moore was 1-for-1.

Loganville 2, Dacula 0

LOGANVILLE - Loganville picked up a Region 8-AAAA win Tuesday night by holding off Dacula 2-0.

Dacula had numerous chances to score but stranded eight runners in scoring position. Kelsea Martin finished 2-for-3 for the Falcons (7-5-2, 4-3) while Allie Miles pitched well but received no offensive support, allowing three hits, two runs (one earned) with three strikeouts.

Apalachee 1, Stephens Co. 0

WINDER - Apalachee starter Courtney Gunby (7-3) allowed just one hit with 16 strikeouts in seven innings to help the Wildcats shut out Stephens County 1-0 on Tuesday in a Region 8-AAA game.

Gunby also delivered the only hit and RBI for Apalachee (10-4, 7-2) when she singled with two outs in the first inning to plate Ansley Thompson.

GAC 15, Walker 0

NORCROSS - Top-ranked GAC stayed unbeaten on Tuesday as the Spartans cruised to a 15-0 win in four innings over Walker in a Region 6-AA game.

Mollie Mitchell led the offense for the Spartans (17-0, 4-0), going 2-for-3 with a double, triple, four runs and four RBIs. Other offensive contributors were Jessica Coan (3-for-4, two RBIs, run), Ceclia Stephens (1-for-1, two RBIs, run) and Reagan Page (2-for-3, two RBIs, run).

Kelsey McDavid (4-0) earned the win on the mound, allowing one hit with six strikeouts in four innings.

Buford 16, Cross Keys 1

BUFORD - Shelbi Valek logged her first win on Tuesday as second-ranked Buford blasted Cross Keys 16-1 in three innings in Region 6-AA action.

Valek (1-0) allowed just one hit and one unearned run in three innings with nine strikeouts.

Ashley Razey led the offense for the Wolves (12-0-1, 6-0), going 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a two-run homer. Chelsie Thomas and Whitney Holman each went 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Jennifer Tucker finished with a double and two RBIs. Buford finished the night with 16 hits.

Wesleyan 3, Pace 2

ATLANTA - Brittany Mitchell went 1-for-3 with two RBIs on Tuesday to help Wesleyan to a 3-2 win over Pace Academy.

Whitney Warren also went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run for Wesleyan (6-9) while Paige Hamlin picked up the win by striking out five in seven innings.

Hebron 7, Social Circle 1

DACULA - Hebron moved into second place in Region 8-A with a 7-1 win over Social Circle on Tuesday.

Victoria Sink (7-3) recorded 13 strikeouts in seven innings, allowing one run on one hit and one walk for the win. Megan Dixon reached base four times for Hebron (9-8, 6-2) and scored three runs while Rachel Duval added a single and two runs. Megan Griffin also had a solid game with two singles and a run.

VOLLEYBALL

Norcross hands Dacula first loss

NORCROSS - Dacula, ranked No. 9 in Class AAAA, suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday night at the hands of Norcross as the Blue Devils, ranked No. 8 in Class AAAAA, swept the Falcons in three games (25-15, 25-21, 25-22) in a non-region battle.

Hannah Nelson led Norcross (14-6) with 17 kills and two aces while August Rhea had 10 kills and six digs. Also playing well for Norcross were Rachel Monteagudo (30 assists), Tiffany Clarke (nine kills, four blocks), Bruna Freitas (three aces) and Jenna Hancharik (two digs).

Parkview wins three matches

LOGANVILLE - Parkview improved to 18-5 on Tuesday after picking up three wins, beating Grayson (25-18, 22-25, 25-12), Salem (25-17, 25-19) and Meadowcreek (25-10, 25-16).

Audrey Hipple finished with 25 kills while Melissa Houseworth had 29 assists for the Panthers. Jordan Flanigan served eight aces while Naria Williams helped with five blocks.

Grayson won its next two matches after falling to Parkview by beating Meadowcreek (19-25, 25-7, 25-18) and Salem (25-13, 25-10). Manyi Ati led the Rams with 22 kills and 41⁄2 blocks while Elexis Quinby added 10 kills and five aces.

Mill Creek beats North and Collins Hill

SUWANEE - Olivia Day tallied 36 digs and 18 kills on Tuesday in helping Mill Creek to a pair of wins over North Gwinnett (25-13, 25-19) and Collins Hill (25-13, 24-26, 25-22) in Region 7-AAAAA play.

Taylor Dodge also served six aces for Mill Creek (14-9, 4-0) while Taylor Alkire delivered 34 assists.

Berkmar splits with Brookwood and Central

LILBURN - Berkmar played two matches on Tuesday, beating Central (25-23, 17-25, 25-23) but losing to Brookwood (25-23, 12-25, 12-25).

For Berkmar (4-11), Ashley Jackson had 10 assists and three aces, Tyra Smith tallied 13 kills while Mariah Richardson and Krystal Morissette combined for four blocks.

BOYS SOCCER

Killian Hill 3, Heritage 0

LILBURN - Killian Hill improved to 7-0 on Tuesday as the Cougars blanked Heritage Christian 3-0.

Nick Williams preserved the shutout at keeper while Mach Hildebrand, Matt Tewes and Zach Brownfield provided the offense with one goal each.
