LAWRENCEVILLE - Since the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District added extra patrols in June, CID director Chuck Warbington said crimes against businesses have gone down.
"The two things I hear almost on a daily basis are the landscaping and that we see police everywhere," Warbington said. "It gives you a sense of security." The CID will host a town hall meeting about safety in the district Wednesday, where residents and business owners can ask questions of the county's police chief and the heads of the Quality of Life unit and the Westside precinct. After a town hall meeting about an area redevelopment plan brought more than 100 people to the Global Mall earlier this year, Warbington said he wouldn't be surprised to see even more people there to talk about safety. "We want to address what's going on with crime in the area," he said. "Crime's going down." The CID began employing additional officers in a security enforcement zone June 4. They work from 11:30 p.m. until 3:30 a.m., CID program director John McHenry said. Thursday, the CID approved a plan that will add two Norcross police officers to the mix. Those two officers will work full time, with their salaries paid by the district.
