Gwinnett Daily Post
The task for Buford is considerably different this week. For the past two weeks the Wolves have prepared to play a big Ohio school in the Kirk Herbstreit Classic and then a state-ranked Class AAA team in Cartersville. They won both of those tests handily, making tonight's Region 6-AA matchup with Avondale look like a mismatch.
Buford defeated Avondale by 50 points a year ago. Head coach Jess Simpson prefers not to focus on the opponent, but on his team getting better with each game. He couldn't complain last week after the Wolves whipped Cartersville. Michael May intercepted two passes and Jak'ar Bridges added one pick for a playmaking defense.
"We felt like our defense really played well again," Simpson said. "Our secondary played great."
Offensively Buford made improvements from the season opener, spreading the touches around to a number of players in last week's win. The Wolves led Cartersville 38-0 at halftime and then coasted in the final two quarters, getting experience for a number of reserves. If tonight goes as expected, Simpson and his staff should be able to get the reserves plenty of action.
