LAWRENCEVILLE - Police believe a possible love triangle may have led to a deadly shooting in Lawrenceville on Sunday morning.
Gwinnett County police discovered 21-year-old Javier Beltran's body in the middle of the roadway about 5:45 a.m. in front of Ridgewood Place, his red Honda Civic approximately 15 to 20 feet behind him.
According to a Police Department press release, Beltran, of Lilburn, was shot several times as he was leaving a friend's home.
Authorities have arrested 22-year-old Juan Manuel Cruz Arriaga and charged him with Beltran's murder.
Police believe Arriaga was competing to date Beltran's girlfriend. The release states the 22-year-old confronted Beltran at the home where he was shot and killed.
Authorities located Arriaga in Mississippi on Sunday as he was driving through the state in an alleged attempt to flee to Mexico. Arriaga is being held at the Warren County Jail in Vicksburg, Miss., pending an extradition hearing.
Police Department spokesman Officer David Schiralli said he could not speculate as to how long it could take for Arriaga to be extradited to Gwinnett County.
