This one has all the makings of a classic. Just like last year. Cartersville is currently ranked No. 4 in Class AAA, while Buford is ranked No. 2 in Class AA. The Wolves kicked a last-second field goal to beat the Purple Hurricanes 28-25 a season ago.
"(Cartersville) is not as big as Grove City was, but you look at their team and you say, 'Wow.' Because they can really run," Buford head coach Jess Simpson said. "They have a lot of team speed."
It starts with the Purple Hurricanes' quarterback, Donovan Tate, who is the son of former UGA running back Lars Tate and is expected to be an early pick in next year's MLB draft. "He's a special player," Simpson said. "He can throw it and run it really well. They are loaded at the skill positions."
But as Cartersville knows all too well, so is Buford. Senior running back Demetris Murray ran for 60 yards and a score in the opener and junior speedster Cody Getz had a 35-yard TD catch as well as a 39-yard punt return for a score.
"There's going to be some really good players on the field," Simpson said. "It's going to be an exciting game."
