Bowen donates to The Impact Group

' DULUTH - Bowen Family Homes recently donated $10,000 to The Impact Group, a nonprofit organization in Gwinnett County that offers financial education to homebuyers and homeowners.

The money will help fund courses offered by The Impact Group's Home Investment Academy, which covers all aspects of homeownership from maintenance to financial management and foreclosure prevention.

"Teaming with The Impact Group is just another way we can help educate people on their road to homeownership," said David Bowen, one of the owners of Bowen Family Homes.

State ranked No. 1 in nation for work force training

' ATLANTA - Georgia was recently ranked the No. 1 state in the country for work force training, according to a recent survey by Expansion Management magazine.

The magazine took a poll of more than 80 site location consultants who judged states on the quality of their training programs. Programs were judged on financial value, ease of use and applicability.

Since Expansion Management started conducting its work force training poll in 1999, Georgia has been ranked No. 1 three times and has never finished lower than No 4.

Georgia's Quick Start program has been training employees in the state for more 40 years.

Adjutant general to retire, take job with local business

' ATLANTA - Georgia's Adjutant General will retire from his post in November and become the chief executive officer of American United Bancorp Inc. in Gwinnett County, according to an announcement from the Governor's office earlier this week.

Lieutenant General David B. Poythress had been in charge of the Georgia Department of Defense and the National Guard since 1999. He had spent a total of 44 years in the military.
