UGA student cited for shoplifting

DULUTH - A University of Georgia student is accused of trying to take unpaid-for items from a Duluth T.J. Maxx on Saturday afternoon, a police report said.

Cuong Thi Tran, 21, of Lawrenceville was stopped by store loss-prevention personnel following her attempt to leave the store on Satellite Boulevard with a pair of pants and pair of shoes in her purse, the report said.

Tran was searched and detained by Gwinnett County police but was released with a shoplifting citation. The merchandise was worth nearly $28.

Mosque vandalized

LAWRENCEVILLE - A member reported the Darus Salam Mosque on Cruse Road in Lawrenceville was vandalized Monday night.

According to a police report, someone wrote on the building the words "Laraza 13" with spray paint in multiple places.

The member that reported the graffiti told police the people who vandalized the building may have been caught by the mosque's video surveillance system.

Tucker man arrested after admitting he had no driver's license

NORCROSS - A Tucker man was arrested after an officer discovered the man had no driver's license and a child in his vehicle was improperly restrained.

Luis Texis, 24, of 107 Preston Lake Drive admitted to the officer who pulled him over Aug. 29 that he had no driver's license, according to a police report.

Texis was arrested and also cited for not having his friend's 2-year-old child in a car seat.

Gas stolen from Braselton station

BRASELTON - A trucker filled his tractor-trailer with 351 gallons of diesel fuel, then left the Pilot Station at 5888 Highway 53 without paying for it Aug. 30.

The fuel was valued at $984.97.

There were no suspects, although the truck was described as being an HNR Trucking Co. truck.
