Teen cited for shoplifting
LAWRENCEVILLE - An Atlanta teen and Whitfield Academy student was caught shoplifting at Bass Pro Shop last Saturday, a police report said.
According to the report, 17-year-old James Douglas German was seen by a loss prevention employee stuffing two pairs of sunglasses into his pockets and attempting to leave the Discover Mills store on Sugarloaf Parkway.
When questioned, German admitted to taking the glasses, worth a total of nearly $55.
German was given a shoplifting citation, but store officials decided not to press charges.
Norcross dollar store robbed
NORCROSS - The Dollar General was robbed Monday, a police report said.
A black man and woman entered the store on Peachtree Parkway about 9:15 a.m. and acted as though they were going to make a purchase. When the pair approached the counter to pay, the man pulled a gun and demanded the manager take the armed man to the safe and empty it.
The couple left with nearly $3,000. The manager said the incident may have been caught by store video surveillance.
Umbrella aids man in escaping attempted robbery
DULUTH - The victim of an attempted robbery beat off his attacker with an umbrella, a police report said.
The man was standing near the leasing office of the Columns at Club Apartments on Club Drive where he lives when he was approached by a black man and three Hispanic men.
When one of the Hispanic men pulled a gun and demanded the man's wallet, he began to hit the armed man with his umbrella. The apartment resident was able to run away, escaping a possible robbery.
