STONE MOUNTAIN - A Stone Mountain man was killed Thursday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with an other vehicle, police said.
Ben Lolies, 20, was traveling east on Hugh Howell Road in Stone Mountain when his motorcycle struck an oncoming vehicle making a left turn out of the Kanawha subdivision, DeKalb police spokesman Marcus Hodge said. The impact caused the vehicle to thrust forward, striking a second vehicle, Hodge added.
Lolies, a 2005 graduate of Providence Christian Academy and Dartmouth College student, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hodge said no other injuries were reported.
"Based on witnesses' reports, the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed," Hodge said.
Police could not say if any other factors contributed to the accident. Hodge said a full investigative report was not available Friday.
Funeral services for Lolies will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wages and Sons Stone Mountain Chapel, 1040 Main St., Stone Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, family has asked donations be made in Lolies' memory to Providence Christian Academy, 4575 Lawrenceville Highway, Lilburn.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Wages and Sons Stone Mountain Chapel.
