Police still looking for Snellville shooting suspect

SNELLVILLE - Police continue to look for the suspect in a Monday night shooting that wounded a 19-year-old man.

Preliminary investigations indicate the man was shot in the chest while riding in his cousin's vehicle near Ash Tree Street in Snellville.

Police are not releasing the wounded man's name.

Authorities believe the Snellville man was involved in a fight before the shooting began about 6:30 p.m. Police indicated the fight may have been part of an ongoing dispute between the 19-year-old and several others.

Gwinnett County Police Department spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said the 19-year-old fled from the altercation in a vehicle with his cousin. During their attempt to get away, Spellman said, someone fired a shot from a nearby vehicle, hitting the man in the chest.

Spellman said the victim's cousin took him to his home and called 911.

The shooter reportedly returned to the victim's home moments after the incident, firing shots into the house while the pair waited for authorities.

Spellman said the man was taken to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Due to the nature of the incident, Spellman said she could not release information concerning possible suspects and did not know what could have spurred on the fight and subsequent shooting.
