DECATUR - The juggernaut that is the unbeaten Buford Wolves crushed its sixth victim Friday night, manhandling gridiron and Region 6-AA rival Decatur 47-6, at the Decatur High School Stadium.
Buford (6-0, 4-0 region) managed to score in each of the quarters on touchdowns and a field goal, even a first period safety on a blocked punt by Justin Black and a few other teammates to draw first blood. "We did some good things tonight, and we are well pleased with the outcome," said Buford coach Jess Simpson after the game. "We are happy with the way our team prepared. "We made a couple of mistakes, but we threw the ball and caught the ball well. Demetris Murray is one of my senior leaders ... he is extremely competent. We have a special group to coach." Murray ran for two touchdowns and caught a TD pass from Twoey Hosch to lead the scoring. The Bulldogs (2-4, 2-2 region), who will lose their stadium to the wrecking ball following this season to prepare for the building of a new stadium, managed only one score when Xavier Jones picked up a fourth-down snap from center off the ground and ran it all the way to paydirt for a 72-yard TD in the first quarter. Murray raced for a 14-yard TD in the first quarter, while Tyler King scampered for a 19-yard touchdown run later in the period. That put Buford up 16-6 at the end of the first period. Michael May tossed a 13-yard pass to Melvin Harris with 8:54 to go in the first half, then Lawson McGlon kicked a 32-yard field goal. Buford capped its first half scoring with Hosch's 11-yard pass to Murray. Murray added a five-yard TD in the third quarter, and Buford ended its scoring in the fourth quarter on Storm Johnson's 7-yard TD scamper.
