Baby left in car dies
Apparent mix-up led to infant death

STONE MOUNTAIN - A 7-month-old infant died after he was accidentally abandoned in his mother's vehicle last weekend, police said Tuesday.

Brock Pouncie died after his mother and father inadvertently left him in the backseat of a 2006 PT Cruiser for up to four hours, police said.

Gwinnett police were called to investigate the death at 5101 Manitou Way, Stone Mountain, Saturday afternoon.

Cpl. Illana Spellman, Gwinnett County Police Department spokeswoman, said a medical examiner's report should reveal exactly how the baby died.

Until that report is released, the investigation will be active, Spellman said.

No charges have been filed against the boy's mother or father.

Brock died after his father, Judah Pouncie, placed him in the Chrysler and left the family to take a nap, police said.

The baby's mother, Keshia Pouncie, had left the car momentarily and didn't know the sleeping infant was in the car, police said. She drove to her sister-in-law's house at the Stone Mountain address to visit and took her 4-year-old child inside with her.

During a phone conversation with her husband about four hours later, she was told the baby was in the car, police said.

The baby's mother found the boy unresponsive in the backseat before she called police.

Brock was transported to Emory Eastside Medical Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
