DULUTH - The Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Monday a 66-year-old woman found dead in her home Friday died from a gunshot wound.
Jerry Ann Elliott was apparently killed in her home at 3959 Abbotts Bridge Road, police said. Elliott's husband, James Elliott, found his wife on the floor of the couple's den, surrounded by toppled furniture, police said. He called 911 to report a homicide at about 7 p.m. Investigators believe the home may have been burglarized prior to the apparent homicide. "We're calling it a home invasion," said Gwinnett County Police Department spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman. "There appears to be forced entry. The house was in disarray." James Elliott returned home Friday from North Georgia, where he visited real estate property he was interested in purchasing, Spellman said. On his way back to Duluth, James Elliott's numerous calls to his wife were unanswered, she said. Police said they are still talking with family members and no suspects have been named. The couple had lived in the home for more than 30 years.More like this story
