DULUTH - A warrant was filed Thursday for the arrest of a Macon man police believe is responsible for a number of Atlanta area bank robberies, including one in Gwinnett.
Duluth Police Department Capt. Mark Hunter said authorities are looking for John Donald Butler who allegedly robbed the SunTrust bank on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard on Nov. 6. Police said the man they believe to be Butler entered the bank shortly after 6 p.m., presented a note demanding money and fled with a few thousand dollars. Hunter said 44-year-old Butler is still at large. He added Sandy Springs police also have warrants out against Butler for similar bank robberies in their city. Hunter said Butler has an extensive criminal history and had recently been released on federal parole. Due to the span of Butler's alleged robberies, which reportedly include DeKalb County, Stockbridge and out of state banks, Hunter said the FBI is likely to pick up the case.More like this story
