LAWRENCEVILLE - Rainy weather has delayed today's planned traffic shift on Ga. Highway 20, transportation officials said Monday.

Instead, the shift to newly constructed lanes from Grayson-New Hope Road to Hillside Road will occur Wednesday.

Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Teri Pope said the rain Monday kept crews from completing work to allow the shift.

But she said the DOT did not mind a break in the dry weather, which has caused construction projects to move quickly but has lake levels receding.

"We hope to get the work finished (today) and are planning to shift traffic Wednesday," Pope said. "By scooting traffic over we will have room to work on the 'old' lanes of State Route 20."

This is the second of several planned traffic shifts on the $26.8 million widening project, which will create a four-lane stretch of highway from Plantation Boulevard to Cooper/Ozora Road. The work is expected to be complete by Aug. 31, 2008.
