Reuben Thomas (R.T.) Patterson, age 83 of Jefferson, formerly of Norcross, died Monday, November 26, 2007. Mr. Patterson operated a funeral home in Norcross and Lilburn until his retirement in 1997. He attended Georgia Teacher's College, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and graduated from John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science, Nashville, TN. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy and was active in many civic and church organizations including the Georgia and National Funeral Directors Association and the Graduate School of Embalmers. In the early 1970's, Mr. Patterson gave the first ambulance to the Gwinnett Fire department setting in motion the development of the county's ambulance service. He is survived by his wife, Opal Foster Patterson, daughter and son-in-law, Mari Beth and Sonny Hartsock, Jefferson; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Debbie Patterson, Jefferson; sister, Florene Griswold, Nicholson; grandchildren, Matthew (Ashley) Hartsock, Micah (Amy) Hartsock, Andrew, Emma, and Anna Patterson, and great grandson, Micah A. Hartsock. The funeral will be held 11 AM Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson with Rev. Larry Montgomery, Pastor Derek Watson, and Dr. Carey Hillard officiating.
