Oresta and Irma Riva of Dacula will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Monday. The couple married on Thanksgiving Day in 1942.

The Rivas were both born to Italian immigrants, and Oresta "Red" Riva was one of 12 children. He worked as a heavy equipment construction worker, and Irma was a housewife. The couple grew most of their own fruits and vegetables.

The Rivas lived in a home Oresta built in Canaan, Conn., from 1942 until 2005, when they joined their daughter, Shirley Riva Paulk, and her husband Dr. Lee Paulk in Dacula.

The Rivas have three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom live in Gwinnett.

The couple will celebrate today with a party at their daughter's Dacula home.
