LILBURN - East Park Place Boulevard was closed for about five hours Tuesday while Atlanta Gas Light worked to stop a gas leak.

It is unknown what caused the underground leak. Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Lt. Thomas Rutledge said residents in the area reported smelling gas about 8:59 a.m.

Gwinnett Fire responded first to the scene to monitor gas readings and evacuate two businesses while gas crews worked on line along a stretch of road between Glen Club Drive and Park Plaza Circle.

Rutledge said about 25 to 30 people were evacuated from nearby businesses and no injuries were reported.
