Hunt under way for missing student

LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett police are asking for information that might lead to a missing college student last seen at Wild Bill's nightclub in Duluth.

Police say 18-year-old Justin Gaines was last seen Thursday night when a friend dropped him off outside the nightclub. He could have entered the club using fake identification under the name Brad Allen or Brad Shewe, police said.

Investigators are tracking Gaines' cell phone calls and are working to obtain video from the nightclub, said Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman. Gaines' mother reported him missing Sunday.

Gaines, a former Snellville resident, graduated from Brookwood High School last year. He now studies at Gainesville State College Oconee Campus.

Karen Beyers said her son, Chris Beyers, was the last person to see Gaines Thursday night. Her son shares an apartment with Gaines in Athens, she said.

She said it would be uncharacteristic of Gaines to wander off.

"He'd go out for a night, but never more than a night," she said. "(Gaines) called looking for a ride at about 2 a.m. and my son didn't have a car. He said he may have to sleep there (in the nightclub) somewhere."

Karen Beyers called the former football player "a muscle-bound, no-neck type" who could "fend for himself."

Police describe the missing man as 5 feet 11 inches, 210 pounds with a muscular build. He has blue eyes and short, brown hair. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeve Abercrombie & Fitch shirt, blue jeans and sandals.

Gaines' mother, Erika Wilson, told police she has contacted his friends and all area hospitals and jails with no success.

Karen Beyers said she is putting together a reward fund for information that leads police to Gaines.
