Madison County 27, Winder-Barrow 6

DANIELSVILLE - Mistakes are part of any football game, but sometimes they can actually be the game.

Thanks to errors in the final quarter of Friday night's game at Madison County, Winder-Barrow fell 27-6 in its Region 8-AAAA Division A game.

"We had it 13-6 and we turn the ball over at the 40- or 50-yard line. We had a chance to score and we didn't." Winder-Barrow head coach Brian Allison said.

Madison County (4-3, 3-2) struck first when Cello Latimore finished a strong drive with a 1-yard plunge to give his team a 7-0 lead.

Aldreakous Allen, who compiled 94 yards on 12 carries, sparked the team with big runs in the first half, including a 39-yard run down the sideline to set up the first score.

Winder-Barrow (4-5, 1-5) was unable to get anything going on the offensive end, amassing minus-6 yards on its first possession and having nothing but a missed field goal to show for in the opening quarter.

The Bulldogs committed nine penalties and had two crucial turnovers in the final quarter.

Madison County also showed a lack of discipline, committing 11 penalties including five personal fouls.

With Madison County on top 10-0, Winder-Barrow's offense came to life when quarterback Greg Dixon connected with Taylor Bradberry on a 50-yard catch-and-run.

On the next play, the duo would hook up again on a 12-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 10-6 after the PAT was blocked.

Madison County would add a late field goal to take a 13-6 lead into the locker room.

Both defenses tightened in the third quarter, as neither team was able to put any points on the board.

In the final quarter with both teams in need of a big play, Allen would provide the fireworks for his team.

Following consecutive 21-yard runs from Latimore and quarterback Spencer Baird, Allen ran it in from four yards out to give his team a two-touchdown advantage.

"That was huge" Madison County head coach Randall Owens said. "I told Al that we needed a big night from him and he did a good job," he said.

Allen's night was not over as he displayed his defensive prowess by intercepting a Dixon pass and running it back 75 yards for the score.

Dixon would over throw BradBerry on the team's final possession a final miss in a game of miscues, misreads and errors.
