Apartment fire ruled an arson

LILBURN - Fire investigators have ruled a Friday morning apartment fire an act of arson.

Thirty-five firefighters responded to the Park Crossing apartment complex at 1504 Park Crossing Way in Lilburn about

4:35 a.m. to reports of flames coming from a first-floor unit.

Four apartment units were destroyed in the blaze and four others were damaged in the fire believed to have started in a first-floor unit, Gwinnett Fire spokesman Lt. Thomas Rutledge said.

Crews found heavy fire issuing from the back of the two-story apartment building when they arrived.

Heavy fire and a partial collapse of the burning building forced fire crews to battle flames from outside, Rutledge wrote in a release. Firefighters had the flames extinguished in about an hour.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist six families, a total of about 20 people, displaced by the damage. Two of the eight apartment units were vacant at the time of the fire.

Rutledge said anyone with information about the incident should call the Gwinnett Fire, Arson and Explosives Unit at 678-518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1-800-282-5804.

Georgia Arson Control Inc. offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of people responsible for arson.
