LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett's medical examiner concluded Thursday that a woman found dead in a house fire this week was shot to death before the blaze.
Ted Bailey, chief forensic investigator, said an autopsy has confirmed that 43-year-old Amy Lee Ayer died Tuesday of a gunshot wound. Police charged David Robert Norton, 39, of Suwanee with murder and first-degree arson Wednesday. Investigators say he shot Ayer, his reported girlfriend, and set fire to her home at 3040 Sentinel Parkway in Lawrenceville. Norton was arrested at a Days Inn Suites in Norcross less than 24 hours after authorities discovered the woman's body. Two teenage boys believed to be Ayer's children reported the fire Tuesday afternoon. The home was first thought to be empty. Firefighters limited the fire to the interior of the home's second story, where Ayer's body was found.More like this story
