Man faces 13 counts in alleged rape

LAWRENCEVILLE - An Atlanta man was recently indicted on 13 counts for allegedly attacking and raping a Snellville woman while armed with a baseball bat.

Michael Jerome Spence, 27, faces charges that include rape, burglary, aggravated sodomy and drug possession that stem from the Aug. 5 incident.

Spence is accused of attacking the woman at her home on Cordite Loop and forced her into having sex, according to an Oct. 23 indictment.

A police report indicates that Spence and his alleged victim had previously been in a relationship.

Spence remains at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond. His arraignment is expected later this month. He was employed as a bouncer at an Atlanta strip club prior to his arrest, jail records show.

During the incident, Spence was carrying a Tic Tac bottle in his front pocket containing 10 pills of Ecstasy, according to a Gwinnett police report.

Spence arrived at the woman's home in a stolen 2007 Dodge Charger and broke in when his knocking was ignored, the report said.

He attacked a male occupant inside with a black baseball bat who called police after Spence forced him from the home, according to the report.

Gwinnett police secured the home and arrested Spence inside. The woman's child was home at the time, the report said.
