FLOWERY BRANCH - A 39-year-old man died on Lake Lanier on Monday when his personal watercraft collided with another personal watercraft.
Ly Pham, of Lawrenceville, died about 5:10 p.m. in the Secret Cove area just outside the University Yacht Club near Flowery Branch. Pham died of injuries sustained in the crash, according to Melissa Cummings, spokeswoman for the Department of Natural Resources.
Information was not immediately available about the condition of the driver of the other watercraft.
Three people drowned on Georgia lakes over the Memorial Day weekend, Cummings said. One of those was an unidentified black woman who was pulled from the lake at Stone Mountain Park about 9 a.m. Monday.
Lake Lanier saw five boating accidents over the holiday weekend, and DNR officials issued 10 citations for Boating Under the Influence, Cummings said.
Statewide, DNR officials issued 39 BUI citations and saw eight boating accidents, Cummings said. Pham was the single nondrowning fatality in Georgia over the holiday weekend.
