WINDER - An 85-year-old Grayson man suffered a broken leg and lacerations after being struck by a car in Winder on Friday.
Thomas Cyril Ferguson was hit at 12:36 p.m. while crossing North Broad Street in Winder.
Witnesses told police Ferguson was walking across the street in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a Pontiac Grand Prix.
"The driver of the Grand Prix was attempting to turn left onto North Broad Street from East Candler Street," said Cpl. Bryant Cruse, accident investigator for the Winder Police Department. "The driver indicated that he simply did not see the pedestrian in the crosswalk."
Cruse added that the accident was unintentional, but that pedestrians always have the right of way.
Ferguson was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with a broken leg and lacerations on his head and hands. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, according to Lt. Todd Druse. No charges were filed against the driver.
