Snellville convenience store robbed
•SNELLVILLE - A Snellville food mart was robbed Monday afternoon.
According to a police report, a black man entered the store, went to the cooler to remove a drink, proceeded to the front counter and pulled a gun and demanded money from the store owner at the counter.
The owner of the Five and Two Food Mart at 2671 Centerville Highway said he gave the man money from the register. He said the man fled with about $300 or $400.
Fire in home contained to mattress
•LAWRENCEVILLE - A fire at a Lawrenceville home Thursday afternoon was contained to a mattress in the bedroom, firefighters said.
According to a Gwinnett County Fire Department press release, the blaze was quickly extinguished and crews found no extension of the fire to the rest of the home on Waterford Park Drive.
Residents were home at the time but escaped unharmed, the release said.
The fire caused minor damage to the bedroom where the mattress was located, and only light smoke flowed throughout the house.
Man robbed while withdrawing cash
•BUFORD - A man visiting the ATM at a Bank of America in Buford on Monday night said he was robbed.
The Buford man was at the ATM on the west side of the bank located at 1500 Buford Highway withdrawing money when someone grabbed his neck and stuck something in his back, according to a police report.
The thief, described as a tall black man with short, cropped black hair, took the man's money and debit card. He then fled in a black SUV.
The victim said as the man drove away he waved a black handgun out the window.
Transformer fire caused by squirrel
•WINDER - Winder firefighters extinguished an electrical transformer fire Thursday on North Fifth Avenue.
The fire began at 9:33 a.m. and was extinguished within about 20 minutes, officials said.
The fire was caused by a squirrel, said Joan Matthews of the Winder Fire Department.
"When you have a transformer fire, it's usually caused by a squirrel," Matthews said. "They just get in there (the transformer)."
