Charges unlikely in Peek's fatal accident, police say

Gwinnett County investigators said charges related to the death of Brookwood High School quarterback Daniel Peek, who died after a May 5 car accident, may not be filed.

At this point in the investigation, Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney said charges will not be filed in connection with the death of the 17-year-old.

The Snellville teen died May 9, four days after his 1998 Jeep Cherokee crashed and overturned on Highpoint Road in Snellville. Police believe alcohol and speed contributed to the accident.

At one time, police were looking into whether charges should be filed against the person or persons who provided the underage teen with alcohol.

Moloney said the investigation is still active, but when asked specifically if charges will be filed said: "At this time it appears not."
