DICKERT, EMOGENE

Emogene P. Dickert, 84, of Dacula, died May 21, 2007. Born in Gainesville, Georgia, July 16, 1922, she was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Luther Pinson. Early in life she moved with her family to Brookhaven, where she graduated from Chamblee High School and attended Oglethorpe University. She was a much loved, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who made friends wherever she went and was known for her strong faith in God, unfailing sense of humor, and delicious food, which she often prepared while singing her favorite hymns. She was preceded in death by her son, John Clayton Dickert, Jr., and is survived by her beloved husband of more than 64 years, J. C. Dickert of Dacula, her daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Cecil Clapp of Jasper, and granddaughter, Laura L. Moakler of Atlanta. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 23 at 11 o'clock at Oglethorpe Hill Chapel. Interment Arlington Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at H.M. Franklin Daniel (Danny) Brogdon, 50, of Duluth, died May 22, 2007. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 24, 2007 at 2:00 PM in the Bill Head Funeral Home, Duluth Chapel with Rev. LILBURN

HODGES, RICHARD

Richard Jarrel Hodges, age 69, of Lilburn, GA, originally from Huntington, WV, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2007 at Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. He will be cremated and a memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 2 o'clock p.m. at Tom M. Wages Funeral Home, Snellville Chapel, Dr. Edward R. Bolen officiating. The family will receive visitors beginning at noon, before the service. His ashes will be interred at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, following the service. Mr. Hodges was born on February 6, 1938 in Huntington, WV. He graduated from Huntington East High School at 17 years old and served four years in the Air Force. He then attended Marshall College (now University) graduating with honors in 1967, with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Science. While at Marshall, he was President of the Alpha Sigma Phi social fraternity, a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Scholastic Honorary fraternity, and served in Student Government. After graduation, he was awarded a National Science Foundation Teaching Assistantship at Georgia Tech, and in 1970, he graduated, again with honors, with a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked first at the Georgia Tech Engineering Experiment Station, then at Scientific Atlanta and finally, 18 years at Lockheed Martin where he spent most of his time on C-5 cargo plane radar and avionics projects. He retired in 2005 and at the time of his death, he was still a member of the "Old Crows" (The Electrionic Warfare Information Operations Association) and a lifetime member of (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.) He was also an active founding member of the Marshall University Alumni Association, Atlanta chapter, and a huge Marshall Thundering Herd football fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil E. and Irene O. Hodges, and brothers Paul Ray and Freddy Everette, who died as infants. He is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Linda Ann Meadows Hodges, daughters Mary M. Conley of Athens, GA and Melinda N. Hodges of Lilburn, grandson, Aaron R. Conley and son-in-law, Christopher G. Conley, also of Athens. He is also survived by his sister, Dorcas H. Burlingame and brother-in-law, John H. Burlingame of Cleveland Heights, OH, along with numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
