Senior workshop to be held for retirees

•LAWRENCEVILLE - A "Seniors Awareness" workshop will be held for retirees and those approaching retirement at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Gwinnett Senior Learning Center in Lawrenceville.

The seminar will be conducted by Mark Lloyd, president of Suwanee's The Lloyd Group Inc. Lloyd is a certified estate planner with more than 16 years of experience in financial and insurance matters involving those dealing with retirement.

The seminar will focus on a number of topics, including changes in Georgia's Medicaid Estate Recovery Program.

The workshop is free and food will be provided, but seating is limited. Reservations can be made by calling The Lloyd Group Inc. at 1-800-450-2737.

Chamber to host EEOC report seminar

•DULUTH - The Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce will host a seminar on Thursday explaining the new changes to the EEO-1 Report and the definition of an applicant.

The presenter will be John Fitzgerald, deputy director of the Atlanta District Office of the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He will explain how the Internet has brought new dimensions to employment recruiting and how companies can minimize their risk of a costly audit by the federal government.

The cost is free for Human Resource Management Association members and $20 for nonmembers, who must prepay for the event.

The seminar will be from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the 1818 Club, which is located on the third floor of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce building.

New Georgia secretary of state to speak

•DULUTH - New Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel will speak at the Verizon Wireless Governmental Affairs Meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce.

Handel was elected in November and sworn into office in January. She is Georgia's first Republican secretary of state.

Handel has been named by Georgia Trend Magazine as "One of the 100 Most Influential Leaders in Georgia."
