Cover of quarterly journal features Braselton library

BRASELTON - Braselton's seven-month-old, 6,800-square-foot library dominates the cover of Georgia Library Quarterly's spring edition.

Architects designed the library to complement the town's stately old Southern buildings, like the Braselton House next door and the Town Hall, also a Braselton family home that was once voted the Prettiest Town Hall in Gwinnett County. Its cool white exterior and wrap-around, rocking chair front porch caught the attention of the journal's editors.

"We decided to use the photo because I had seen a picture of it and I was impressed by the style," GLQ editor Susan Cooley said. "It wasn't another brick building with a green tin roof. It seemed to ooze Southern charm. Alan (Harkness, director, Piedmont Regional Library System) agreed to take some additional photographs and they were excellent."

Harkness submitted the photos on Valentine's Day.

"I was pleasantly surprised that they decided to use it for the cover, which looks really nice," Harkness said.

Harkness presented Mayor Pat Graham with three framed copies of the cover. One will hang in the library and two in Braselton's Town Hall.

"It is quite an accolade to have our library featured on the cover of a journal that goes to librarians all over the state," librarian Bev Adkins said.

The Georgia Library Quarterly is a publication of the Georgia Library Association. The 43-year-old journal publishes about 32 pages in each edition and circulates to about 1,000 members, subscribers and organizations.

The Braselton Library is one of 11 branches of the Piedmont Regional Library System that serves Banks, Barrow and Jackson counties.
