Man accused of blowing horn too much

•NORCROSS - A Norcross man was pulled over Saturday night after allegedly constantly blowing his car horn while traveling on South Norcross Tucker Road near Sparrows Lane.

Arturo Cruz-Olivas, driving a black Honda Accord, was pulled over by a Gwinnett County police officer shortly before 7 p.m., and when asked for his driver's license could only show the officer a Nicaraguan ID, according to a police report. Cruz-Olivas said he had no American driver's license.

Theman was arrested and charged with improper use of his horn and operating a vehicle without a driver's license.

Former coach's dream comes true as principal

The seniors at Brookwood High School graduate Wednesday night, and in some ways so does Debra Dees. An assistant principal at the school, Dees takes over for Jane Stegall as principal July 2.

Buford High School literary team takes state

BUFORD - For the second time in the past three years, the Buford High School literary team won the Class AA state championship.

The meet was held at Houston County High School in March, with Buford beating both Pierce and Early counties, who tied for second place.

Can't trust promises in immigration 'fix'

I wish I could believe the president and those senators who claim their agreement on immigration legislation will "fix" the problems of open borders and illegal aliens.

I can't, because the public has had no input into the measure; the last time Congress "fixed" the problem, it got worse; and it appears Democrats and Republicans care more about harvesting votes for their respective parties than doing what's best for their fellow citizens.

Andrew James "Andy" Fuller, 24, resident of Hunting Hills Dr., Braselton, died May 19, 2007 as a result of an automobile accident. Mr. Fuller was born August 23, 1982 in Cleveland, TN, a son to Arthur Franklin Fuller, III and Debra Ray Fuller. He was a tour guide in the Alaskan Wilderness, a connoisseur of fine coffees, a musician, a collector of unique knives, swords, and books, and a loving son and brother. He was also good with children and quickly won their admiration. Surviving are his father & his wife: Linda Irene of Braselton, GA; mother: Debra R. Wyatt Stuart Jones, Sr., of Norcross, GA died on Sunday, May 20, 2007 at the age of 82, after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Jones had been an Air Force Combat Pilot, flying B-17's during World War II and served again in Korea as a pilot in the Mosquito Squadron. He had a long and distinguished career in manufacturing which led him with his family to reside in several cities across the United States. Mr. Jones and his wife lived in Norcross, GA for the past 20 years where he was close to his family. He was a member of Tucker First United Methodist Church. Relay nearing its goal of $2.5 million

LAWRENCEVILLE - The celebrating, walking and tent-decorating at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds has come to an end, but the fundraising for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life has not.

Suspicious device on bus a false alarm

LAWRENCEVILLE - An item found on a Gwinnett County Transit bus first thought to be an explosive was found to be nothing but a metal weight, authorities said.

A transit employee found a recycling bag under a bus seat Monday morning and reported it to a transit supervisor who called 911, said Gwinnett County Department of Transportation transit director Tim Collins.

"The employee did exactly what they were supposed to do," Collins said of the false alarm. It's policy for employees to notify a supervisor and for the supervisor to contact authorities if a suspicious item is found, Collins added.
