Kroger employee escapes robbery•DACULA - A Kroger employee escaped a robbery attempt Thursday night, police said. The employee was working at the Kroger gas kiosk at 2700 Braselton Highway in Dacula when a man appeared at the door of the building about 10 p.m. The employee said the man was armed with a silver semiautomatic handgun and demanded she give him money. She ran toward the main store as the man shouted that he would shoot her. The woman was able to get to the store and call police.

WINDER - A partially burned man found dead near a grass fire March 29 died of smoke inhalation, Barrow County Coroner David Crosby said Tuesday.
STATHAM - South Georgia needs help and Barrow County Fire and Emergency Services is sending it.The Georgia Mutual Aid Group, a public agency that works with the state, called for assistance Monday in fighting the south Georgia wildfires. The agency asked for 175,000 wildland-trained firefighters and equipment to aid in extinguishing the fires that have burned 87,000 acres of southeast Georgia forest and swamp land.
