Cash, jewelry stolen from home
•LILBURN - The owner of a Lilburn home on Haverford Run Drive said his home was burglarized Friday morning.
According to a police report, various electronics, jewelry and approximately $4,000 were taken from the bedroom of the home.
The homeowner believes the thief entered the home through a window in the master bedroom bathroom.
Fire displaces elderly couple
•LAWRENCEVILLE - A fire caused by food left cooking on the stove damaged a Lawrenceville home and displaced an elderly couple Friday.
Authorities said the 5:58 a.m. blaze damaged the kitchen and living room and sent thick smoke throughout the house at 2687 Five Forks Trickum Road.
The couple was home at the time and escaped before fire crews arrived. Both were evaluated at the scene by paramedics for minor exposure to smoke.
The American Red Cross was contacted to provide temporary assistance.
Ga. 20 shut down after gas leak
•LAWRENCEVILLE - Friday's road closure wasn't planned.
A construction crew working on the widening of Ga. Highway 20 cut a gas line Friday morning, causing the highway's intersection with Cooper/Ozora Road to be closed for an hour.
According to Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Lt. Thomas Rutledge, the break occurred when the crew was digging with a backhoe.
While Lawrenceville Gas Co. responded to the scene, firefighters monitored gas readings and evaluated six businesses in the area. Rutledge said no injuries were reported.
Buford house fire displaces family
•BUFORD - A house fire at 4240 Johnson St., in Buford displaced one adult and two children about 6 p.m. Friday. The blaze appeared accidental and was confined to a bedroom and hallway, according to Lt. Tommy Rutledge, Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman.
No one was injured in the fire.
Man loses tooth in reported assault
•WINDER - A man told Winder police officers he lost a tooth when he was assaulted on North Williamson Street on Thursday. The man told police that two black men approached him and asked for money. He gave the men his pocket change, police reports said. The men then hit him and knocked out a molar, according to police reports.
The man walked to the Winder police station where an officer noticed that he could see through a cut on the man's face into his mouth. He was transported to Barrow Regional Medical Center for stitches.
Man charged with robbing cafe
•WINDER - Police arrested Hank Lanier Baker, 41, of Winder, and charged him with burglary and criminal trespass Thursday.
Winder police officers responded to a report of a possible robbery in progress at the Chatter Box Cafe on East Athens Street. Officers discovered Baker walking down the street carrying a bag, police reports said. Baker ran from officers and attempted to climb a chain-link fence, police reports said. Two officers grabbed his legs and pulled him down, police reports state.
Officers found the Chatter Box Cafe and the neighboring building burglarized, according to police reports. Inside, they found copper lined up on the floor and a cold beer on the counter.
Arson fire destroys Commercial Tire
•WINDER - A fire reportedly started by an arsonist destroyed Barrow Commercial Tire on Carl-Bethlehem Road in Winder at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
"Due to the type of construction and the combustible materials inside, the structure was quickly fully involved," said Lt. Scott Dakin, Barrow County Fire and Emergency Services spokesman.
Investigators determined the fire was started by an intentional human act, Dakin said.
