Boot drive to benefit burn center

LAWRENCEVILLE - With boots in hand, Gwinnett County firefighters visited local businesses last weekend collecting donations, and this weekend fire crews will do the same.

Fire Department spokesman Lt. Thomas Rutledge said the departments' crews started collecting donations last weekend for the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation Inc.'s "Give Burns the Boot" boot drive and will continue to raise funds this weekend beginning today.

"(People) can look for firefighters collecting throughout the community this weekend," Rutledge said. Donations can also be made at any county fire department, Rutledge added.

Gas leak shuts down Loganville Highway

•GRAYSON - A gas leak caused Loganville Highway to close in both directions between Patricia Terrace and Copper Road on Thursday afternoon.

Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Lt. Thomas Rutledge said construction crews working on a road-widening project hit a gas line, causing the leak.

Grayson hires new boys basketball coach

Grayson has hired Habersham Central's Brian Anderson as its new head boys basketball coach. Anderson was an assistant with the Raiders this past season.

Rider, French lead 7-AAAAA honors

North Gwinnett's Mitch Rider and Collins Hill's Justice French received the top individual honors on the All-Region 7-AAAAA baseball team, which was voted on by the region's coaches.

Rider was named All-Region the player of the year and French was the pitcher of the year.

Mrs. Patricia "Pat" Jordan, age 64, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening, May 8, 2007, after a long illness. A native of Glennville, GA, she had resided in the Augusta area for the past 20 years. She was a member of New Hope Worship Center. She is preceded in death by: her mother, Mrs. Helen Sands, who passed away in 1999. DULUTH - Police have recovered surveillance images of a man who robbed a Duluth bank Saturday.

Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney said the search continues for a black man who entered the Bank of America at 3542 Satellite Blvd. about 12 p.m.
