Highway 20 widening to require lane shift

LAWRENCEVILLE - Drivers will get their first feel of new lanes, as part of a traffic shift needed for the widening of Ga. Highway 20 in Grayson.

Crews expected to shift traffic from Plantation Boulevard to Hillside Drive to newly constructed lanes today, if weather permits.

"By scooting traffic over we will have room to work on the 'old' lanes of State Route 20. This is the first of many traffic shifts on the project," Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Teri Pope said. "Please slow down and give yourself extra time to travel through the work zone as conditions are continually changing. Remember to slow down because all fines are doubled in a work zone."

The $26.8 million, 4.2-mile widening - the first of a three-phase effort - is expected to be complete by Aug. 31, 2008.
