U.S. 78 CID provides regular police patrols
A recent letter by Patrick Malone ("Curbing crime is job No.1," To the Editor, April 29) inaccurately suggests that the Evermore (U.S. Highway 78) Community Improvement District does not provide additional police patrols.
In fact, the Evermore CID began providing up to 2,500 additional hours of off-duty Gwinnett County police patrols within months of our formation in May 2003.
Not only is the Evermore CID the first CID in Gwinnett, it was the first to make a strong commitment to public safety.
In addition to the off-duty patrols, the Evermore CID sponsored bicycle police patrols for the Snellville Police Department and joins in recognizing all police, firefighters and emergency response personnel as a Valor Award sponsor.
Executive Director, Evermore Community Improvement District Light rail is the best transportation solution
Buses and toll lanes make the politicians feel good, but no one else. The real solution, light rail, is laughed out of the room by these who ask: "How can I help?"
The Brain Train is an excellent option on that side of Gwinnett. There is a usable right of way that runs from Gainesville through Buford, Duluth and Norcross and could hook up with MARTA where it terminates in Doraville. That's a good option.
I admit my bias to rail having lived in Chicago and spending considerable time in New York City and Boston.
Neither Gwinnett nor Atlanta will ever be world-class metros using buses. Or, can you name me a world-class metro using buses as its primary (or only) transport option?
I can't think of one. Gwinnett and Atlanta won't be the first.
