LAWRENCEVILLE - Drivers will see a construction milestone this week when crews open a new Old Norcross Road bridge over Interstate 85, a component of the three-year reconstruction of the interstate's Ga. Highway 316 interchange.
If the weather cooperates, the current bridge will close tonight, Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Teri Pope said. When the road reopens at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, drivers will be using the new bridge. "Just slow down through the area and follow the signs," Pope warned. The overall project, which includes building ramps to bring westbound Ga. 316 drivers to the right side of I-85 southbound, high-occupancy lanes and collector-distributor lanes is scheduled for completion in December of 2008. The construction cost is $147 million. For construction updates and information about lane closures, go to www.georgianavigator.com.More like this story
