DULUTH - Police have identified an Atlanta man found dead behind a Kohl's department store last week.
Ricardo Omar Belle's body was discovered in a Jeep Laredo parked behind the store by a Kohl's employee about 10:20 a.m. April 24.
Investigators previously thought they had identified the man using a New Jersey driver's license found inside the Jeep with the man, but Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney said investigators quickly determined the ID was bogus.
Moloney said investigators determined the man was 36-year-old Belle through fingerprint identification .
Moloney said investigators believe Belle was shot to death at the Kohl's store located at 2050 W. Liddell Road and found approximately 24 hours after his death. Moloney would not say whether the man was shot inside or outside the vehicle.
"We believe the shooting took place at that (Kohl's) location," Moloney said. "The rest is hard to answer. Our investigation so far indicates the deceased had several aliases."
Moloney said family also helped identify Belle. Belle is believed to have a criminal history, but Moloney said he was not sure what the history included.
Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais said Belle's last incarceration at the Gwinnett County Jail was in 1998 for speeding charges.
Moloney said police have no named suspects at this point in the investigation.
A Kohl's manager refused to answer any questions about the incident and referred the Post to the store's corporate offices.
Courtney K. Rogaczewski, a Kohl's spokeswoman, said the store is cooperating with those leading the investigation. She would not answer specific questions concerning the incident.
Anyone with information about Belle or his death is asked to contact the Police Department at 770-513-5300.
