BUFORD - Gwinnett County firefighters used special extrication tools and air bags to free a truck driver whose tractor-trailer overturned after colliding with an F350 truck on Interstate 85.
The accident occurred on the northbound lanes of Interstate 85 north of Buford Drive. The northbound lanes of the interstate were shut down for about two hours.
A large wrecker was used to help lift the cab as firefighters worked with extrication tools and air bags, said Lt. Thomas Rutledge, Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman.
The driver was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville with serious injuries, Rutledge said. "He was conscious and talking to firefighters throughout the entire extrication operation," he said.
Firefighters were dispatched at 7:02 p.m. No injuries were reported from the driver of the F350.
