Gwinnett Daily Post
South Gwinnett announced the hiring of a new head boys basketball coach and a new athletics and activities director on Thursday.
The school hired Southwest Macon's Emmett Rouse as its new boys basketball coach and tabbed Mike Watkins, currently an assistant principal at South, as its new AD. Both hirings were confirmed by Phil Davidson, the Comets' AD through the end of the school year.
Rouse coached previously at Josey and Butler, but spent the past three seasons at Southwest Macon.
"A friend of mine told me (the South job) was open," Rouse said. "I knew it was one of the top programs in the AAAAA department and I wanted to prove I could coach at that level. I know the South Gwinnett program has a great tradition of winning and great athletes. I'm looking forward to it."
Rouse's teams at Southwest struggled, going 22-41 in three years and failing to reach the Region 4-AAA Tournament this past season. But before coming to the Macon school, he led Josey to one state final, two Final Fours and two Elite Eights in nine seasons. A former player at Brewton-Parker, he has a 212-104 career record.
Watkins, who has a background as a wrestling coach, previously worked at both Duluth and Dacula.
