Museum meeting set for today

NORCROSS - The Norcross Museum Boosters will hold an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. today.

The meeting will be in the Cain Room at the Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center, 10 Britt Ave., across from City Hall. Use lower rear entrance.

Anyone interested in Norcross history is invited. Organizers expect to have the fledgling museum up and running by the city's Fall Festival.

School holds anniversary party

LILBURN - Rockbridge Elementary School teachers celebrated the school's 40th anniversary.

A group of current and former teachers and past PTA volunteers gathered at Lilburn's Killian Hall to reminisce.

get DUI awards

MACON - The Duluth Police Department received the "Departmental DUI Hero Award" for having the highest number of DUI arrests for any similarly sized agency in the state.

The award was granted by Georgia Mothers Against Drunk Driving at its third annual law enforcement recognition luncheon

March 23.

In 2006, Duluth officers arrested 654 impaired drivers. A plaque, which was presented to Police Chief Randy Belcher, will be kept in the awards display case at the police department.

Duluth's HEAT Officers Joe Tomalka and Bobby Johnson were also recognized for being among a select group of officers with the highest number of DUI arrests in the state (256 and 250, respectively).

One of MADD's top honors went to Johnson, who received the prestigious "Statewide Officer of the Year Award." He was presented the award by the national MADD president amidst a standing ovation by hundreds of law enforcement officers.

5K race to be

held next month

LAWRENCEVILLE - The fifth annual Tribble Trot 5K Race will be April 14.

Runners at Tribble Mill Park in Grayson will take on a 3.1-mile paved course that winds through the wooded terrain of the park. The race begins at

8 a.m.

The registration fee for entries received by April 6 is $15. Registration after this date and on the day of the race is $20 and begins at 7:15 a.m. All registered racers will receive a T-shirt. Ages eight and up are eligible to participate in the race.

City to hold

networking event

SNELLVILLE - Snellville will host a networking event in April.

The Rise and Shine Networking Breakfast will be held at City Hall from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. April 10.

Man wins lottery

LAWRENCEVILLE - A local handyman won $30,000 in the lottery.

Michael Nalley purchased the ticket at 452 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville. He said he will use the money to buy another truck and put a down payment on a new house.

Nalley is the owner of C & M Handyman Service. He and his wife have six children.
