Chic gloves can save manicures

Nester's Needs by Anna Ferguson

I'm living the high life now. I have a dishwasher. But there was a time in my not too distant past that I was not so lucky. I had to actually stand over the sink, hands drowning in soapy water, and scrub away before I had clean bowls.

I'll admit - much to my mother's chagrin - that on more than one occasion, I let the sink get moderately (read: very) full before I took to the task. It wasn't because I'm particularly lazy. I put off doing the dishes because I just didn't want to get my hands all slimy and I didn't like wearing those ugly yellow gloves.

And then I realized I didn't have to. There are several stylish options for saving well-manicured hands from dishwashing doom.

Meshing the scrubber with the glove, the Dishwashing Sponge Padded Glove from Lushlife is ingenious. Sponges are attached to the finger tips and palm of the glove, making washing and wiping a breeze. Just squeeze a dot of soap in your hand, rub together and get to work. The gloves come in bright pink and yellow, vibrant pink and purple, funky leopard print and black-and-pink polka dot. Retailing for $15, the padded sponge gloves are sold at retail stores and online at www.lushlifehome.com.

Sweaty palms are an unfortunate side effect of the dishwasher glove. Avoid the damp-hand feel with the Vileda Fresh Comfort rubber gloves. The gloves are lined with foam to absorb more moisture than tradition cotton-lined gloves, leaving hands soft and dry. Also from Vileda, the Sensitive Plus Household Gloves feel like second skin. The thin gloves fit snugly to your hand to help get a good grip on dishes and maximize control. Double-coated fingertips add an extra layer of protection. Both gloves retail for $2 at area grocery and drug stores.

The Couture Dishwashing Gloves from Flip-Flop Style are so chic, you'll want to wear them all the time. These rubber gloves are designed in a Victorian pattern with a ruffle cuff and come in blue-and-black, black-and-white or red-and-white. The gloves are 17 inches long, giving extra arm coverage to keep your sleeves dry. Doing chores has never been so dashing. Retailing for $15, the gloves are sold online at www.flipflopstyle.com.

The Tony Snow I know, respectVIEWPOINTS

Nobody dislikes Tony Snow. By acclamation, people who know him say the White House press secretary is the most decent, kind and encouraging human being they have ever met. Speaking from personal experience, I can testify not only to his inner warmth and outer kindness, but also to the goodness of his wife, Jill, and their three children.
