Lillian Janette (McIntyre) Thompson, age 83, of 875 Beverly Drive, Gainesville, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007 at New Horizons Nursing Home following an extended illness. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at Memorial Park Chapel with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Hicks will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Thompson was born in Hall County to the late W.L. McIntyre and Mary (Hatcher) McIntyre. She was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church. Mrs. Thompson retired from Glaze Kindergarten and was known for her love of children, where she was known as MeMaw. For many years Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Georgia Pre-School Association. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Thompson; sisters, Bonnie McIntyre, Grace Kiser, Bernice Miller, Myrtlean Gravitt, and Christine Gillespie; and brothers, Alvin (Polly) McIntyre, Talmer McIntyre, and Bill McIntyre, Great grandson, Travis Sexton; Great granddaughters, Juliana and Jillissa Corporan. Joseph (Joe) D. Mays of Lawrenceville, Georgia, died on Sunday, March 25, 2007. He was born on March 27, 1917 in Lawrenceville. He served as Master Sergeant in the Army Air Corp, 376th Heavy Bombardment Group, 515th Squadron during WWII. He later retired from General Electric. He was a faithful member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Cleff Thompson Mays; sons and daughters in law, Danny & Rhonda Mays and Stan & Sheila Mays; granddaughters, Rachel Mays, Heather Bland, April Mays, and Ramsey Sinclair; grandsons, Joey Mays, Andy Mays, and Heath Sinclair; great grandchildren, Patrick and Morgan Bland; sister, Evelyn Elrod; sister in law, Carolyn Simpson; brothers in law, Ralph Thompson, Gerald Thompson, and Wendell Thompson; several nieces and nephews. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a friend to many. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 3:30p.m. at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville with Rev. Herbert Owen and Rev. Jim Cabaniss officiating. He was retired from General Motors Assembly Plant after 30 years of service. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 10. He was a former City Councilman for the City of Suwanee for 32 years. He was a member of the Buford Masonic Lodge No. 292 F.&A.M. where he received his 50 year pin. He was a charter member of Shadowbrook Baptist Church in Suwanee, GA. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. J. B. Reese, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Peachtree Road Baptist Church Cemetery, Suwanee, GA with full military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be the Suwanee City Council, City Manager and the Police Chief.
