WINDER - Winder police officers Monday arrested a man suspected of beating an elderly woman in her home Friday.
Marvin Lorenzo Shannon, 37, was arrested about 10 p.m. in an apartment complex in Monroe County. He was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
Detective Rachel Love named Shannon a suspect after talking to family members and getting tips, Winder Police Department Lt. Dennis Dorsey said. Monroe County Sheriff's deputies and Forsyth police helped track down Shannon in Monroe County, located just northwest of Macon.
Shannon entered the woman's East New Street home on Friday through an unlocked back door and viciously beat her, police reports state. She remains in an Augusta hospital with fractures, bruises and lacerations to her head and face. Dorsey said the woman has been moved from intensive care into a regular hospital room and should be released by the end of the week, if she continues to improve.
At press time, Shannon had not faced a bond hearing. He was being held at the Winder Police Department before being transferred to the Barrow County Detention Center.
