GRAYSON - The Grayson City Council announced appointments for its city boards and

officers Monday night during its regular monthly meeting.

Councilwoman Tammy Shumate was appointed mayor pro tem by the council, and Todd Miller and John West were reappointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission, with terms expiring on March 31,

2009.

Mark Payne and Dan Sosebee were appointed as members for the Board of Appeals through March 2010, while Jim Moff was reappointed as Code Enforcement Officer until March 31, 2008, and Steve Starling was again named city historian, also until March 31, 2008. Barbara Hinkle was reappointed as director of the Arts and History Center, and Angela Wirt as assistant director, both serving until March 31, 2008.

The Planning and Zoning Commission terms of Greg Shumate, Linda Turner, and David Elrod were changed to expire in March 2008.

The City Council also agreed to transmit to the State documents on housing and population figures for a Comprehensive Plan, which will include land use for the city and community assessment. Jerry Weitz, a sub-consultant for Parson's Brinkerhoff, discussed the plan with the council. Gwinnett County and nine of 14 cities in the county are participating in the plan.

The council also authorized three city officials to attend the Georgia Municipal Association Convention in Savannah at a cost of $1,150 per person. Also approved was expanding the Christmas decorations on the city's utility poles.

It also was announced that the city is sponsoring a parade float contest during its Grayson Day Festival on April 28. The competition will consist of three float categories: commercial, noncommercial, and Mayor's Award. A $125 cash prize will be awarded.
