BUFORD - A 24-year-old Jefferson man was killed Thursday when he lost control of his motorcycle along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.
Gwinnett County Police Department spokeswoman Cpl. Valerie Southard said Jeff L. Raughton was driving his 2003 Harley-Davidson south on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near Shadburn Ferry Road in Buford when he lost control of his motorcycle then struck a curb, slid, struck a guardrail and was thrown from the motorcycle.
Southard said an employee of a nearby business found Raughton's body about 9 a.m. in a nearby ravine.
"The motorcycle was unattended on the side of the road and appeared to be wrecked and damaged and I imagine they (the person who found Raughton's body) decided to investigate a little bit," Southard said.
Investigators believe the accident occurred between 1:30 and 2:30 a.m. Thursday and don't believe any other vehicles were involved, Southard said.
At this point in the investigation, Southard said, it is not known what may have caused Raughton to wreck.
